36 Queen Anne's Gate is nearing completion, providing a new home for a Middle Eastern royal. It's the former HQ of the National Trust and is being refurbished to the highest level behind the dramatic gothic exterior.
Estimates are that the building will be worth about £120 million for the 35,000 sq ft pad. The redevelopment of Victoria Street continues, with Sainsburys and the government offices above, being replaced with a spectacular new scheme.
Two new buildings - one residential and one commercial - will continue the transformation of the street by Land Securities that began with Cardinal Place. The new buildings will fit in well with their dramatic new scheme on the corner with Buckingham Gate which is taking shape fast. More public open space and a variety of top end retailers will further enhance this part of Victoria. A new boutique hotel is planned for Vandon Street - just off Buckingham Gate. Currently a student hostel, the property will provide a 61 room hotel, and apartments on the top floors. Its likely to be a Hotel du Vin or similar and will give Victoria another smart hotel to add to the recently refurbished ones at St Ermins and The Grosvenor.
The Intercontinental on Broadway is now back on site and will be completed towards the end of the year. The new Bond film is back on Whitehall, shooting more scenes for the next instalment of the franchise - out in October. Javier Bardem and Judi Dench also star with Daniel Criag in the action blockbuster. A new docking station has been approved next to Parliament. There have always been plenty of docks near Victoria Station but hardly any around The Palace of Westminster, even though they should all be using them. Boris has his office at 'The Spectator' close by so will be pleased he has managed to get a new one approved.
The Réunion Bar has opened at The Grosvenor Hotel. It used to be the VIP lounge, which originally had direct private access to the Orient Express on Platform 1 of Victoria Station. The whole hotel has had a dramatic makeover and offers the most superb dining facilities as well as this terrific new bar.
