WANT A DECENT MEAL IN VICTORIA? LOOK 'NOVA' ELSE..!Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton is leading a charge to end Victoria’s reputation as one of central London’s gastronomic black holes.
The Pollen Street Social owner is one of five restaurateurs who have today revealed that they will open premises in the area in September 2016. His as yet unnamed Italian restaurant is launching in the 900,000 sq ft Nova office, apartments, shops and restaurants development, yards from the mainline station. It is the centrepiece of a £2.2 billion overhaul of the area once derided as London’s “dead centre”. Atherton said: “I am delighted to be part of the gastronomic awakening of Victoria and have no doubt that in time it will enjoy a vibrant and diverse restaurant scene on a par with other areas such as Mayfair and Soho.” Another operator that has today confirmed it will be opening at Nova is D&D London, the dining group behind Quaglino’s, Skylon and Pont de la Tour. The company has signed up to a 10,000 sq ft complex on two floors of the Nova South building including a restaurant on the first floor and café, bar, terrace and food shop on the ground floor. D&D’s chief executive Des Gunewardena said: “Victoria used to be a rather dull part of London full of politicians, civil servants and people passing to go somewhere else. “But that is changing. There is now a much more interesting mix of businesses, retailers and restaurants. And Londoners are discovering Victoria as somewhere pleasant to live. That’s why we have decided to go there.” The other new arrivals are: Will Ricker, founder of Notting Hill’s Asian restaurant E&O and Soho Mexican La Bodega Negra, who is opening an American barbecue restaurant called The Stoke House and a juice bar called the Juice Well; Ross Shonhan, chef-owner of Bone Daddies in Soho and Kensington, who is launching a new Ramen Bar; Adam White, co-founder of the West End’s Riding House Café, who plans to open an all-day 150-seat café. There will be a new branch of the artisan deli and coffee shop Sourced Market, which first opened at St Pancras in 2009, and it is widely expected that the next wave of confirmed restaurant openings will include a branch of Jamie Oliver’s meat venue Barbecoa. David Atcherley-Symes, retail leasing director (London Portfolio) at Nova’s developer Land Securities, said: “The brands and dining concepts already confirmed to be opening in 2016 are places we know Londoners want to eat and spend time in, and there’s more to come.'
