After many years of flexible business space being in short supply or poor quality, or both, Victoria is seeing a boom in new spaces coming to the market. The Office Group is creating a funky new business centre on Eccleston Square, called The Neat House. Grosvenor are transforming some superb red-brick buildings in Eccleston Place with their new co-working hub in the heart of Belgravia. Both new offerings will create new interesting and flexible spaces in what was previously a less commercial part of SW1, dominated more by residential and government.
London Executive offices have taken space at Nova from LandSec and will provide a top-end corporate environment for those that want short term space in a more mainstream location. I2 has taken space in Southside above the House of Fraser on Victoria Street and have found the demand very high indeed from both newcomers to the area and the local business community too. Other new entrants to the market, including WeWork, are keen to secure space in the Victoria area and with their 'free beer and parties' concept, they will certainly do well. Its a changing commercial world, and with flexibility and reliable outgoings of serviced offices, it is likely that the sector will continue its rapid spread. WANT A DECENT MEAL IN VICTORIA? LOOK 'NOVA' ELSE..!Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton is leading a charge to end Victoria’s reputation as one of central London’s gastronomic black holes.
The Pollen Street Social owner is one of five restaurateurs who have today revealed that they will open premises in the area in September 2016. His as yet unnamed Italian restaurant is launching in the 900,000 sq ft Nova office, apartments, shops and restaurants development, yards from the mainline station. It is the centrepiece of a £2.2 billion overhaul of the area once derided as London’s “dead centre”. Atherton said: “I am delighted to be part of the gastronomic awakening of Victoria and have no doubt that in time it will enjoy a vibrant and diverse restaurant scene on a par with other areas such as Mayfair and Soho.” Another operator that has today confirmed it will be opening at Nova is D&D London, the dining group behind Quaglino’s, Skylon and Pont de la Tour. The company has signed up to a 10,000 sq ft complex on two floors of the Nova South building including a restaurant on the first floor and café, bar, terrace and food shop on the ground floor. D&D’s chief executive Des Gunewardena said: “Victoria used to be a rather dull part of London full of politicians, civil servants and people passing to go somewhere else. “But that is changing. There is now a much more interesting mix of businesses, retailers and restaurants. And Londoners are discovering Victoria as somewhere pleasant to live. That’s why we have decided to go there.” The other new arrivals are: Will Ricker, founder of Notting Hill’s Asian restaurant E&O and Soho Mexican La Bodega Negra, who is opening an American barbecue restaurant called The Stoke House and a juice bar called the Juice Well; Ross Shonhan, chef-owner of Bone Daddies in Soho and Kensington, who is launching a new Ramen Bar; Adam White, co-founder of the West End’s Riding House Café, who plans to open an all-day 150-seat café. There will be a new branch of the artisan deli and coffee shop Sourced Market, which first opened at St Pancras in 2009, and it is widely expected that the next wave of confirmed restaurant openings will include a branch of Jamie Oliver’s meat venue Barbecoa. David Atcherley-Symes, retail leasing director (London Portfolio) at Nova’s developer Land Securities, said: “The brands and dining concepts already confirmed to be opening in 2016 are places we know Londoners want to eat and spend time in, and there’s more to come.' Its been quite a time for Victoria with awards going to a whole range of our local favourites.
The Goring Hotel was given a Michelin Star and well deserved too. Kouzu just opposite the Goring was given an award for the best Sushi chef. Being so new this was a remarkable achievement and we can also vouch for the quality and wonderful atmosphere of Kouzu - well done. The Corinthia is perhaps not that close to Victoria but we include it in the patch as its just so darn good. They won the AA Hotel of the year 2015! Finally, Uni restaurant - a Japanese/ Peruvian fusion in Belgravia got on the list of London's Coolest from Misstraveltips.com. Sharing the honours with Chiltern Firehouse - not bad! Former Gaucho managing director Martin Williams is to open his second M restaurant, in Victoria in December.
The restaurant, members’ club and wine store will be located in the Zig Zag Building. M will include two restaurants – M Grill and M Raw. M Grill will specialise in steak, while M Raw will feature tartares, sushi and sashimi. Williams said: “After such a successful opening in Threadneedle Street, I have been searching for the perfect location to open a new venue. Victoria stuck out as the area which is becoming London’s most exciting creative hub. The demographic of residents and workers in Victoria suits our brand perfectly; it’s a location in which I am sure our multi-faceted venue will thrive.” There will be a downstairs bar and a wine store. Right beside Jamies and Iberica - the M restaurant will fit in brilliantly and its another great option for the local workers and residents. Iberica, Leon and Benugo are set to join the tenants at the new 62 Buckingham Gate development.
Health conscious Leon and café/deli, Benugo are expected to open in time for Christmas at 62 Buckingham Gate. Boutique cinema chain Curzon is also to make its debut in Victoria, with a five screen venue expected to open in the basement of 62 Buckingham Street early next year. Amazing array of food at Tachbrook Street market SW1. Japanese,Thai, Turkish, Lebanese, Moroccan, Mexican. Really good fresh fish and veg too.
The new Royal Quarter Cafe on Buckingham Gate provides one of the best breakfasts in the area. Superb eggs, juice and coffee. Great atmosphere too in this contemporary and light setting.
Scrambled eggs on the menu would be a big plus though if you guys are listening! Strutton Ground is rapidly becoming a popular food market with cuisine served from all over the world. It's a hugely popular destination for office workers and also passing tourists alike.
French, Mexican and rotisserie chicken stalls have joined the FlatCap coffee company and others, to feed and water the local population. The burritos are particularly good! |
